Calling All Vintage Lovers in Summit County, Ohio
We chatted with Ty Johnson, the Marketing and Social Media Manager at the Akron/Summit Convention & Visitor’s Bureau about Summit County’s new LoyalBrew passport.
Tell us about the Treasure Trail. What’s it all about?
The Treasure trail is a way for the community to come together and support local businesses. The Treasure Trail consists of 20 different thrift/retro/antique stores throughout Summit County. To earn a stamp at a store, the participant must make a purchase at that store. Once they have 16 stamps, they receive a limited-edition Treasure Trail tote bag and are automatically entered into the Treasure Trail Grand Prize Packaging drawing – a $250 value!
Summit County, Ohio (Greater Akron) has so much to explore. What else would you recommend visitors do if they were in the area?
When coming to Summit County, there is so much to explore. Visit the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio’s only national park, and the 12th most visited national park in the U.S. in 2023. Another great attraction in Greater Akron is Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, Ohio’s largest private historical home. Animal lovers need to make sure to explore the Akron Zoo, home to over 2,000 animals. MAPS Air Museum is where history takes flight and serves as a center of aviation history for Northeast Ohio.
What makes the stores that are on the Treasure Trail so unique?
Each store on the Treasure Trail offers a unique experience and each one is locally owned and operated. They are spread throughout the county, which presents an opportunity for a diverse array of goods – we promise you won’t see the same item twice! For example, the Bomb Shelter offers an experience that feels like you are going back in time while other stores such as Lonia Vintage offer a much more curated selection of goods.
What do you hope to get out of the Treasure Trail passport?
Community growth. Our goal is to create something that continues to showcase local businesses and help build further appreciation for this important retail sector. The trails that the Akron/Summit Convention & Visitors Bureau develop are meant to grow the community, bring people together, and shine a light on places that people may not have heard of.
