Fall in love with the Richmond West Craft Beverage Trail
Autumn is the most beautiful season in Virginia, and we cannot think of a better way to check out the fall foliage than exploring the Richmond West Craft Beverage Trail. We spoke with John Barefoot (pictured below on the right), President of Kindred Spirit Brewing, about the RWT and their new digital passport on LoyalBrew.
For those unfamiliar with Central Virginia, what and where is “Richmond West”?
The trail consists of all craft beverage producers located in either Powhatan or Goochland counties (about 30 minutes west of Richmond).
How did the Richmond West Craft Beverage Trail come together?
The trail was formed in 2016. Excluded from the RVA beer trail due to politics and funding mechanisms, the craft producers in the western portion of Richmond decided to create a better trail that is inclusive of all craft beverages.
How would you recommend planning a weekend on the trail?
With 12 producers on the trail, it is possible to make a couple of day trips, but a weekend getaway is popular with trail-goers staying at a bed and breakfast or at one of our manufacturers that maintain on-site lodging. Fine Creek Brewing has cottages on-site (and 7 Lady Vineyards has rooms in Dover Hall). Whatever the choice is, you are sure to enjoy scenic drives between the stops and you can customize your trip based on your beverages of choice. Breweries, wineries, distilleries and cideries make the trail unique and fun.
What will you receive if you complete the Richmond West Craft Beverage Trail passport?
Gifts change from time to time with glassware, insulated cups, etc… Right now we have a trail branded tote.
